Biology and Biotechnology of Algae and Plant

The group, organized into three research units, one in the branch of Ravenna, pertains to the scientific sector BIO 01 (General Botany) who studies Biology of Plants at all levels of organization, including autotrophic prokaryotes, algae and fungi, and their symbiosis. Of these organisms, the General Botany deepens, theoretically and experimentally, the structural and functional aspects of the organization and their becoming, to establish relationships and interpret, in evolutionary terms, structures and functions, as well as the reproductive mechanisms. It explores the ways in which cells and organs acquire the ability to perform specialized functions and articulation of the processes leading to the formation of complex organisms and the optimization of the reproductive process; highlights the relationship between cytological aspects, ultrastructural, histological, anatomical, morphological, physiological and the role of secondary metabolites, framing them in the characteristics of the development environment, as well as the molecular basis of the development of the plant, with particular focus on embryology and morphogenesis. He also studied the development and application of functional methods pertaining to investigations and related biotechnological applications. In detail, the group deals with aspects such as the Biology of Reproduction, responses to environmental stresses and biotechnology applications.
